Sharing Experiences to Make Traveling Approachable to All

Celebrate Every Journey

Travel is as much about the places and adventures close to home as the epic trips abroad. We can all be Local Tourists in between our far flung journeys. Get started with stories, inspiration, and ideas for your next trip!

This blog is an adventure…

I can’t think of that one moment, where like a bolt of lightening, the idea for Postcard Adventures struck. Instead, it was a collection of comments from friends and family that really started the idea in my mind. It’s also through their outward observations of myself, that I realized I might have something worthwhile to say at all.

A few years ago, my husband and I were living in the Washington DC area, and I convinced my mom, my cousin, and her mother-in-law to come visit. I planned the whole trip. We went to Annapolis, then drove up to New York City, spent a day in Philly, and ended in Washington DC. It was a GREAT time, but nothing extraordinarily different from my past trips to those places. My travel companions, on the other hand, raved about the itinerary, and it made me appreciate the trip even more knowing my firsthand knowledge contributed so greatly to their overall experience.

One couple, after being on the receiving end of many a travel story from my husband and I, shared they aspire to travel like we do. I was taken aback when they highlighted our travel mindset: a weekend ski trip at the mountain a few hours away, flying to a friend’s wedding or another event as an excuse to visit a new place, or simply checking out a new restaurant in the neighboring city. That, coupled with more deliberate vacations, usually internationally, and they painted us as experienced globe-trotters, which I certainly aspire to be!

Finally, I’ve always been a self proclaimed bag girl (like a shoe girl, but with handbags), which I think lends itself to my love of all things packing. I happily spent hours researching the best luggage for our honeymoon in Europe. Months later, my friend, prepping for her honeymoon in Europe, hit me up for advice on my travel gear and packing list to help give her ideas and simplify the experience. I probably talked her ear off more than she wanted when she initially asked!

So, if you are looking to engage with travel in your day to day life, from itinerary inspiration, to chatter about travel tips and tricks, as well as firsthand stories and experiences, welcome to Postcard Adventures! I’m excited to share my travel voice with you in the hopes that, like my friends and family, you find ease and joy in your next trip!
